                                                   TRINITY LUTHERAN CHURCH
REGULAR CHURCH COUNCIL MEETING – Oct. 11, 2018

Present:  Pastor Megan Preston, Greg Jans,  Dennis Brown, Mardelle Crist, Brian Weseman,  Jeff Niedenthal, Randa Larsen, Sonia Liedman,  and Sharon Smith.

Greg called the meeting to order at 7:07.

  1. Reports:
  1.  Minutes from the 9-12-18 had been emailed to the council.  Jeff moved to    approve, seconded by Randa.  Motion passed.
  2.  Reports were emailed.  Sonia reported that we are in the black.  All the coffee  money has been distributed, with a Thrivent match.  CARE money from the fundraiser has been sent.  Money for Bibles for the kids will be paid for by the Endowment Fund.  Jeff moved to approve the report, seconded by Brian.  Motion passed.
A question was raised about donating to the Grove City Fire Department fund raiser.  Brian moved to give the same amount as last year, seconded by Dennis.  Motion passed.
  1. Pastor’s report:  The confirmation program is up and running.  We have no 7th graders this year.  Our Green Lake assistant, Cole, has returned to the program and our Green Lake contract will be reinstated.  There will be no charge for September.  The youth breakfast club began on Sunday, 9-7-18.  The Hymn Sing contest exceeded our goal, raising over $7,000.  There were many visits this month, and also Gladys Bergstrom’s funeral.  There are some continuing education requirements that will be satisfied this month.  The Wednesday night worship is coming along, with 38 attending the first week, 12 the second.   Up to 10 people can sign up for AED training, with 3 already signed up for regular class.  On-line classes are available for 5.

  1. Committee Reports:
  1. Christian Education and Youth – Sunday School is going, but teachers, especially parents, are needed for some of the two-week sessions.
  2. Church Properties  - Brian Weseman said the painting would be finished as soon as dry weather returned.  The windows are completed.  Furniture is still needed for Frank’s Place.
  3. Organizations and Activities – Mardelle related that about 200 were served for the Bergstrom funeral lunch.  There will be a week of quilting this coming week.  She still is looking for people to serve coffee.
  4. Finance and Stewardship – Sonia will be the chair of a stewardship committee which will work with a guest pastor (Pastor Megan will be a stewardship guest pastor at a different church).  Stewardship Sunday will be Dec. 9.
  5. Missions and Outreach – The Mission Auction yielded $3,852.00, with a net of $3,736.42.  This money will go to the Synod.
  6. Personnel – Jeff is working on a job description for the person we hire from Green Lake to assist with youth ministry.
  7. Worship, Music and Arts – Randa reminded us that Confirmation will be Oct. 28.  We will remember 4 saints on All Saints Sunday, Nov. 4.  The Thanksgiving service will be on Nov. 21 in the fellowship hall, and pie will be served.

  1.  Old Business –
  • Frank’s Place – the room has been cleaned out, and now furniture is needed.
  • Preparing for an Active Shooting Incident – Pastor Megan has contacted a church that has done a lot with this topic, and has received information from them.

  1. New Business –
  • There was a question of possibly changing the worship time during the school year, moving activities up a half hour.  Could coffee and fellowship occur during the Sunday School time?  What about an adult Bible study?  No conclusions.
  • The Gideons would like to visit.  For years, Trinity has welcomed a Gideons representative for an annual presentation.
  • Trinity will be hosting a Crow River Conference meeting on 11-13-18, with about 20 pastors and their staff attending.  Study will begin at 11:00 and will finish around 3:30.   Lunch and coffee will be served.
  • The Sunday School staff has requested a updated TV cart that they’d like to be able to hook up to a laptop computer.  Erik Preston would be happy to help with set up.  Jeff volunteered to check on a suitable cart at ACGC.  He’ll put the numbers together for reviewal.

Executive Session – there was a short executive session.
Adjournment and Lord’s Prayer – Greg adjourned the meeting at 8:09,  and we closed with the Lord’s Prayer.

Respectfully submitted,
Sharon Smith, Secretary

Next meeting is November 4, 2018
November Council Assistant is Sonia Liedman
